Q: How much does a gate cost?

Given the custom nature of our work its really hard to answer that question without more detail about your project. We recommend you reach out to us to chat a little bit about what you are looking for - we can often give you a good ballpark number just from a quick phone call or email.

Q: What type of wood does Garden Passages use for its gates?

We will use a variety of different woods depending on the exact use-case needs for each project. In general, the most popular wood choice is Western Red Cedar (Vertical Grain, Clear, Kiln Dried) due to its inherent insect and rot resistance, stability, and reduction in sag. Most clients find that the overall benefits of cedar work best for their projects. We also frequently work with African Mahogany, Teak, Spanish Cedar, Hemlock, Douglas Fir, and other materials depending on the use case. We do not typically work with Accoya, Ipe, or White Oak due to past negative experiences with these species.

Q: Does Garden Passages install the gate for me?

Garden Passages can coordinate installation for you on Full Service projects with a licensed contractor who is experienced with our product and approach; however, you do pay that contractor separately. That amount will be clearly separated on your estimate and verified with you before any installation services are scheduled. Garden Passages itself is just the manufacturer so we cannot install the gate ourselves or accept payment for install work by others.

Q: How long does it take to build a gate?

Lead times will vary depending on time of year and if you are looking at a Full Service or DIY project. In general, Full Service lead times range from 4-8 weeks from approval of an initial design to installation. DIY lead times range from 1-4 weeks with 2-3 weeks being typical. Gate design does have a minor impact on lead time except for extremely custom pieces or style elements requiring us to wait on outside manufacturers (like glass or custom metal).

Q: Do you keep any gates in stock?

No - we do not keep a traditional stock of gates; however, we do have some physical examples in our showroom and the occasional error gate (never structural) that we are happy to sell if you are really on a time crunch. We can also work with you on a rush DIY project to build you something from scratch as quick as possible
